Rubach Wealth is a rapidly growing wealth management firm, located in an exclusive newly built commercial condominium building at 7 St. Thomas Street in the heart of Bloor-Yorkville, Toronto. The design approach had to challenge the preconceived notion of what a wealth management firm should look and feel like, so we responded with an innovative solution creating a boutique experience or a “Pied de Terre” that exudes confidence and simplicity.
The main requirement was to balance two very different purposes: create a comfortable place for hosting campaigns and fundraising events, while still functioning day-to-day as a professional space for clients and staff to interact. Spaces had to be created to accommodate varying work styles and different types of client meetings, depending on the comfort levels and needs of each client. An openwork lounge, a private meeting room, a semi-private collaboration space and a private office support a collaborative and adaptable space. The original interior was a bare concrete shell to be fully fitted out with new building systems; this allowed the new design to have seamless integration of form and function.
The floor plan was designed to not impede or block the beautiful architectural curves of the building, in turn enabling effortless flow from space to space. Listening to the client’s request to have no fixed workstations or seating, we ensured that flexibility was at the forefront of all design decision making, creating a variety of work zones and places to meet; all easily adjustable to the changing needs of the space. New Haven European oak was selected for its light wood tones that create an airy but warm ambience.

The airy, natural lit interior is defined by two free-standing architectural volumes finished in tambour wood paneling. Accessed from both sides, these features are intentionally designed to carve the space, as well as serve as workstations, storage, incorporate a double-sided fireplace and simply act as a beautiful backdrop.
About STOA Design
Stoa Design Collective is a Toronto-based design boutique. Founded in 2016, Olga Evstifeeva and Jennifer Nicevski worked as senior designers in some of North America’s most prominent design agencies before starting their own. Their shared vision to design spaces that evoke emotion led them to set up a studio in Toronto’s creative centre on Queen Street West.
The company derives its name from “stoa”, an open meeting place for thinkers, artists, and the public used in ancient Greek architecture. Working with industry experts, Stoa has built a collective of like-minded creatives and professionals in design, architecture, and construction to make every client project a resounding success.
